Yeah, she does. My parents are very supportive, actually, about my writing, as long as it doesn't interfere with my grades and whatnot. I was just using a "hick" accent as I read it and she found it hilarious. xD I can't wait to start posting. Although. I'm not sure exactly where... I should re-read that welcome letter. c:

I'm glad to hear your parents are supportive and you're not hiding where you're posting. Honestly (not to sound like a total old person over here, but...), you never know who you might run into on the internet. Plus, it's awesome that your parents are supportive of you pursuing your interest in writing. DS might be a bit more of a mature site, but really, the R rating is more to give our members more freedom to write their characters how they see them, not an excuse to post up smut or the like (the convenient thing is most characters are students, so they'd better NOT be getting it on in the school corridors unless there's a very good reason for it, and there usually isn't :P).

Re: where to post...there IS an active common room thread going on in Ravenclaw right now with Chloe Matthews and Aiyanna Earlwood (4th and 3rd year) you could barge in on. Otherwise, if your character likes Quidditch at all, we've got a viewing stands thread going on the grounds that is taking place at the same time as the Quidditch try-outs for Gryff and Slyth below.

If neither of those suit your fancy, dig around and see if any other already active threads might. If not, go to the plotting forum (it's in the Floo Network in a subforum) and post there to see if someone might be interested in starting a thread with you. We just ask new members not to post their new starter threads since we're so new that people might not respond to it immediately (and that's no good!).

OR if none of those options sound tempting, your character can always start up a journal in her favorite location at school where she can return whenever she wants to reflect on things. Just be sure to add in one of the tag images while you're posting (they'll appear above the text box...we have 3 for journals), so you don't have random people walking into your thread.

    I'm done now. :P

Thanks Aya, you're great. Per your advice I read over my app a couple of times (once OUT LOUD, much to the amusement of my Mother) and think I've caught all those sneaky grammatical/spelling errors. xD Hope to talk to you again sometime soon!

It works, though, doesn't it? I've always found reading out loud catches things you otherwise just skim straight over. Whenever I turn in a paper (I'm in graduate school for ONE more year...no more school after this, I swear!), I always print it out and read it out loud. And I STILL miss a bunch of things sometimes. But it's a good technique.

And aw! Does your mother know you applied to some writing sites? The teenagers on the last board I was at largely didn't tell their parents which I thought was a little peculiar (especially given how creepy some internet peoples can be!*), but to each their own, I suppose.

Great talking to you earlier today. Power to the writers. :)

*That statement in no way implies that I myself am creepy. ;P

Here is a kudo-thing for you, as well. Now explain to me what this is? image

    Reply from Bahr Naftali:
A kudo just means you like the person in question. Or their profile, writings, whatever.

It's just a stupid thing to obsess over on yuku. Nothing essential to know about. But thank you! :)
